By on March 12, 2010

Doctor Oz spoke with Canadians Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie, authors of Slow Death by Rubber Duck: The Secret Danger of Everyday Things, on his XM / Sirius radio show.  Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie tracked chemicals in their blood and urine while they lived out their normal lives.  And by doing this, they were able to discover that by doing a few things and reading labels to avoid toxins, you can reduce the levels of toxins and pollution in your body.

Rick Smith & Bruce Lourie Advice on Toxins to Avoid:

1. Shower Curtains

Your should avoid shower curtains that are soft plastic like vinyl.  Rick Smith and Bruce Lourie said that Sears is moving away from vinyl shower curtains and are now making their shower curtains out of nylon.

2. Avoid Phthalates

Phthalates are commonly found in heavily scented products like shampoos and soaps, but also it is even used in kids toys.  The best way to avoid phthalates is by trying to purchase unscented products as much as possible.

3. Avoid Bisphenol A

Bisphenol A is usually seen in plastics like baby bottles, water bottles and plastic kitchen containers.  You should avoid Bisphenol A, because it has been linked to prostate cancer and other cancers.
