Dr Oz: Kirstie Alley Shopping List

Dr Oz talked with actress Kirstie Alley about her yo-yo weight loss and supplement product line that she swears has her back in shape. Since she seems to be getting results, he sent her grocery shopping with some other women to learn her secrets. Plus, she made her Tortilla Soup Recipe, breakfast tacos, and Beer Basted Chicken Recipe for a full day’s worth of meals.

The women were overjoyed to meet Kirstie, and one of them said she is tired of being mistaken as a pregnant woman. (Never assume. Don’t we know this rule by now?)

Doctor Oz: Kirstie Alley Dessert Cheat

Kirstie suggested snapping pictures of beautiful desserts instead of chowing down on them, because “it doesn’t look good on your ass.” She snatched dark chocolate pretzels out of the not-pregnant woman’s hands before she could throw them in the cart.

At the produce section, she said to choose “dull and naked” apples over the waxed, shiny ones. She also encouraged her trainees to go nuts on olives, which she guaranteed would make them feel attractive.

Kirstie Alley: Organic Peanut Butter

Kirstie Alley recommended organic peanut butter and busted open the jar in the aisle to make the ladies try it themselves. “Who does that?” one of them wondered.

When it was time to check out, she had the store put everything on Dr Oz’s credit card. I guess you could get me to go grocery shopping with Kirstie Alley if Dr Oz was footing the bill.

Back in the studio, Kirstie’s trainees, Michelle and Stephanie, reflected on their fun journey. They were inspired by what they learned and had fun spending time with Kirstie, who could relate to their personal grocery concerns.

Kirstie Alley made her Beer Basted Chicken Recipe and a day’s worth of meals with Dr Oz.


Kirstie called herself a “mono-eater,” who likes to enjoy the same meals every day until she gets sick of them. “When I love something, I just eat that,” she said. She showed off some of her diet choices for Dr Oz and the audience.

She said these meals use all organic ingredients.

Kirstie Alley Breakfast Taco Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Egg White
  • 1/2 Avocado, sliced
  • 1/2 Jalapeno, diced
  • 2 Small Corn Tortillas
  • Salsa

Directions

  1. Heat tortillas until warm.
  2. Mix ingredients together on medium heat, until eggs are just set.
  3. Serve on two tortillas, topped with salsa.
  4. Substitute egg whites instead of eggs for lower cholesterol.

Kirstie Alley Lunch: Tortilla Soup Recipe

Kirstie said she likes to keep her meals around 250-300 calories, because she achieves weight loss best on a 1400 calorie daily diet. She said she has a harder time losing weight on a 1200 calorie diet, because her metabolism slows.

Dr Oz said it’s about finding the right plan for your individual health needs.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Chicken Breast
  • 4 cups Chicken Broth
  • 1 Onion, halved & sliced
  • 2 Tomatoes, diced
  • 1/2 Avocado, sliced
  • Jalapeno, diced
  • Favorite seasonings
  • Cilantro
  • Lime
  • Tortilla Chips (optional)

Directions

  1. Combine broth and seasonings in a stockpot and bring to a boil.
  2. Add remaining ingredients, reduce and simmer for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Remove chicken and let cool before shredding and returning to soup for a few more minutes.
  4. Serve hot, with a light amount of tortilla chips for some crunch.

Kirstie Alley Meal Plan: Beer Basted Chicken Recipe

Kirstie said she likes to do most of her weekly cooking on Sunday and freeze or store food to serve for lunches and dinners all week. She said that women’s busy schedules and worries about what kids might like can hold moms back.

She taught her shoppers to shop for the fresh, perishable foods on the perimeter of the store. She said she wants to teach her own kids about “calories and chemicals,” along with learning how to cook so they can feed themselves.

Ingredients

  • 1 Organic Chicken
  • 1 can Beer
  • 1/2 lb New Potatoes
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 6 cloves Garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Butter
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Directions

  1. Prepare chicken with a rub of salt, pepper, and garlic.
  2. Bake your chicken in a preheated oven at 350, atop a bed of potatoes drizzled with Olive Oil.
  3. Bake about 90 minutes, basting occasionally with beer for a crispy finish.
  4. Serve with baby arugula and shaved Parmesan cheese.
