Dr Oz: Coconut Oil for Weight Loss, Eczema, Psoriasis & Ulcers

By on January 25, 2011

Dr Oz did a segment called the Super Powers of Coconut Oil: Revealed.  Is Coconut Oil a miracle food?  When many of us think of coconuts, we think of the tropics or our favorite desserts.  But Coconut Oil is used to heal Eczema, Psoriasis, Ulcers and can even help you to lose weight.  Doctor Oz spoke about the three most powerful benefits of Coconut Oil.

Dr Oz: Coconut Oil & Weight Loss

Dr Oz said that the first health benefit of coconut oil is weight loss.  Which is healthier – olive oil or coconut oil?  Well, from a calorie perspective they both have 119 calories and 13 grams Dr Oz Coconut Oil Treats Skin Conditionsof fat per TB so there is no difference from that angle.  Coconut Oil is a solid at room temperature, but becomes a liquid when you heat it, because Coconut Oil is a saturated fat (hence its bad reputation!).  However, Dr Oz said that Coconut Oil is made up of Medium Chain Fatty Acids which get dissolved into your blood and metabolized by your liver with no problems.  Steaks on the other hand are made up of Large Chain Fatty Acids which do not go to the liver to be metabolized and they make you fat.

Dr Oz: Coconut Oil & Eczema or Psoriasis

Dr Oz said that the second benefit of Coconut Oil is that it treats skin conditions.  Coconut Oil has been used for centuries to help cure Eczema and Psoriasis.  In fact, Dr Oz likes to try Coconut Oil on just about any skin ailment because it is inexpensive and easy to try out.  Coconut Oil contains Lauric Acid, which helps to fight off fungal infections too.  What I try to do with my husband when his Eczema flares up is to put some Coconut Oil on his hand before going to bed and I wrap it in plastic wrap and cover it with a cotton sock.  Then, in the morning it is like he had a deep skin treatment all night long.

Dr Oz: Coconut Oil & Ulcers

Dr Oz said that the third benefit of Coconut Oil is that it treats ulcers that are caused by the H Pylori bacteria.  The Lauric Acid in the Coconut Oil can help to kill off H Pylori.

Dr Oz: How Much Coconut Oil To Use Each Day

Even though Coconut Oil has lots of health benefits, it is still high in fat and calories so you should make sure not to overdo it.  Dr Oz suggested adding 1 TB of Coconut Oil to your diet every day.

  2. I have heard so many amazing health benefits of coconut! I would love to know whether they are true but we avoid coconut due to allergies. Our son also had terrible eczema but has been helped dramatically by taking his Vidazorb chewable probiotic. He has been taking it for two years and has never looked or felt better! Since we cannot use coconut oil, we actually use olive oil and it is awesome for the skin too!

  3. Acai Berry Select works miracles!!! It worked for me it will work for you try it now!

  4. I’ve seen some recipes for treating eczema, which also included coconut oil. I guess I should give it a try.

  5. mat Burns says:

I heard about the benifits of coconut oil also but I was warned to make sure I got it from a source where the coconut was not affected by the coconut beetle. The best oil is from Island nations like Fiji. Buying from these Island nations also helps to support them.

  6. mat Burns says:

oh! make sure its authentic and not just have an “Islandy” name. My Favorite Natural Fiji

  7. any 1 here who have used coconut oil for psoriasis??did it actually work??

  8. Not sure about psoriasis but it cured some stubborn case athletes foot I had been dealing with – overnight! I told my son about it and he used some to cure some jock itch that had been bothering him off and on.

The athletes foot has not returned after initial treatment 2 months ago and as far as I know I believe my son’s itch has not returned.

    The stuff is a miracle!

  9. Tammy Turlinton says:

I have tried coconut oil and everything else for my hand eczema and it doesn’t work!! Don’t waste your money.

  10. Thanks for your beneficial post. Through the years, I have come
to be able to understand that the actual symptoms of mesothelioma
cancer are caused by your build up connected fluid between the lining
of the lung and the upper body cavity. The infection may start
while in the chest vicinity and propagate to other
limbs. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma cancer include fat
loss, severe breathing trouble, nausea, difficulty ingesting, and swelling of the neck and face areas.
It should be noted some people with the disease don’t experience just about any serious signs at all.

  11. H. Better says:

To date there are no studies that have shown that coconut oil leads to substantial weight loss (the best outcome so far is one study in which patients lost four pounds over the course of many months). Forty percent of coconut oil is in fact composed of those dangerous long chain fatty acids that Dr. Oz mentioned. Coconut oil is guaranteed to increase LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and thereby increase your risk for heart disease and death. Coconuts have more saturated fat than lard (animal fat) and saturated fats are conclusively linked to heart disease. Coconut WATER (not oil) has been linked to ulcer size-reduction in rats.
Please be wise consumers and fact-check on a regular basis! There is a good reason that Dr. Oz has been awarded the Pigasus Award two years in a row! He isn’t always selling you the entire truth…
