Dr. Oz: Cure & Treatments for Herpes Simplex 1 (HSV-1)

By on February 26, 2010

Dr. Oz said that 9 out of 10 of us are already infected with Herpes Simplex 1 (HSV-1), which is easily transmitted through kissing.  Herpes Simplex Virus is when you get little cold sores on the outside of your mouth or the tip of your nose.  Herpes should not be confused with Cancer Sores, which are caused by trauma to your mouth.

Rita, Dr. Oz’s assistant of the day from Long Island, did a demonstration where she squeezed a pomegranate seed to show what it is like when a herpes blister pops and the virus spreads all over and gets inside of your mouth.  Only 1/3 of people have symptoms when they have Herpes Simplex 1.  Do you know how to tell the difference between canker sores and herpes blisters?  Canker sores are found on the inside of your cheek, under your tongue, the tip of your tongue, or the roof of your month (even on your gums you can get a canker sore).  However, if you see a cold sore blister on the outside of your lips, on your skin or on the tip of your nose, this is likely herpes.  The most dangerous is if you have herpes simplex virus on the tip of your nose, because then it is possible for you to get it into your eye which causes lots of problems.

Dr. Oz’s Home Remedies, Cures & Treatments for Herpes Simplex Virus 1:

1.  Tea Bag

Steep a tea bag and put it into the refrigerator.  Then apply the tea bag with local pressure over the area with the herpes to ease the pain.  The tannins in the tea also help to dry out the herpes blister.

2.  Yogurt

Live Culture Yogurt contains lysine, which has been scientifically proven to retard and slow down Herpes Simplex Virus 1.  Yogurt is such a fabulous super-food… I hope everyone out there is eating it daily!

Hi Dr Oz my son used to get Horendus coles sores and we have tried every over the conter product going . When he was younger he would accidently smear the creams we used and the sores would spred over his lip. But an elderly lady I met in a chemist told me not to waste my money and the solution to treat colesores and not have them grow or spread or turn to a scab is to put ice on it for about two hours as soon as he feels it or sees it start and this has truned our lives around! The coles will often not get bigger than a pinhead and will not spread. Just thought this might help others. Kind regards Maria Gilmore Australia

Hello my son has been having a problem with cold sores and he usually only gets an outbreak once a year at the same time of the year but I dont know what to do I keep telling him that he has to keep his hands clean so that he won’t spread it in his eyes or to other people. And I read that you said to use yogurt, but do I just spread the yogurt on his lip or what? And what can we do to prevent this from reocurring.
