Dr Oz: Rosie O’Donnell’s Food Struggles
Doctor Oz spoke with Rosie O’Donnell about her overall health, and of course her diet came up. Rosie explained to Doctor Oz that overeating is accepted in society. You can’t shoot up heroine in a restaurant, but you can binge on junk at a pizza place and no one is going to point the finger. Rosie told Dr Oz that she didn’t enjoy looking into mirrors and only looked from the neck up. When she gains a lot of weight, she doesn’t notice because she never sees her body in the mirror. She sees herself in her old movies, when she was 170 lbs and realized she was just as miserable then as she is today in her 200+ body. She hates zippers and wears elastic waists whenever she can because she’s in major denial.
Doctor Oz asked if she didn’t’ have the weight, what would she do.
Dr Oz was surprised when Rosie replied she couldn’t even imagine herself thin. She told the story of how her daughter found an old, skinnier picture online and asked why she didn’t want to look like that again. Rosie didn’t have an answer. At her thinnest, men were nice to her. She didn’t know how to deal with that attention. She told Dr Oz that she was sexually abused and felt threatened by male attention.
Dr Oz asked Rosie if she felt she would be less funny if she was thin. Rosie replied no, but Dr Oz was skeptical with her answer. (This is where Dr Oz puts on his Dr. Phil hat) Dr Oz felt that a thinner Rosie may feel she’s promising something she can’t maintain and that scares her.
Dr Oz: Rosie O’Donnell’s OWN Show Review
Rosie felt her new show on the OWN channel is a rebirth. She had a decade at home to raise the kids and wanted to retire at 40. (She left her previous show 2 months after turning 40.) Everyone said she’d never leave television, but she felt she had to in order to raise her kids. She actually never thought she’d live past 39, so she didn’t make plans beyond then. She told Dr Oz that every year she gets a mammography and expected the worst. Recently, she lost 15 lbs. (good for you!) and surprisingly, it wasn’t as hard as she thought. She was ready to share her secrets.
