Dr Oz: Garbage Can Foods Prevent Diseases

Wait! Consider saving those scraps of food. Dr Oz says the foods that you normally throw away may help you fight disease. Just think, the prevention of heart disease and stroke may be at the bottom of your garbage can.

Yvette, an audience member, told Doctor Oz that she was concerned with heart disease.

She recently lost weight and, with getting older, her health is becoming more important to her. Dr Oz had Yvette put on the gloves as he showed a normal, healthy human heart. Dr Oz says the human heart is about the size of a fist. A woman’s heart is slightly smaller. Dr Oz uncovered a second sheet and showed a damaged heart. Dr Oz says the heart is damaged due to plaque buildup and is enlarged.

Dr Oz: Watermelon Rinds Prevent Heart Disease

Watermelon Rinds. Grind them up for a juice that will give you a boost in amino acids. Mix the rinds with lemon or lime and even vodka. (Yes, This was a Dr Oz suggestion, not mine—however, I do agree!) Dr Oz had Yvette taste the juice (sans the vodka, of course.) Yvette said it was delicious.

Dr Oz: Celery Tops Prevent Diabetes

Celery Tops. The tops of the leaves contain magnesium. Dr Oz suggested chopping up the celery tops and making it into a salsa. Yvette tried it and said she liked it, but I wasn’t sure I was buying that one. She didn’t look too happy!

Dr Oz: Red Onion Skins Prevent Stroke

Red Onion Skin. You can make an onion soup out of the skin. Dr Oz showed the human brain, which contained black areas (blood) that got into the brain most likely due to a stroke. Dr Oz is the only person I know that can show you a human organ and then talk about making food right after. Yum!

Dr Oz added that since these products were going to be thrown out anyway, it won’t cost you anything.

Not only does watermelon rinds prevent heart disease, but water melon lowers blood pressure… that’s what I use and it works great for me… (as well as my prescriptions and without the side effects). Of course it is very pricey and hard to find in winter…and I eat a lot (1/4 melon daily) which means I have to know where all the ladies restrooms are!!

  2. Wilma, try making watermelon pickles when it’s cheap in the summer. They’re delicious and probably have the beneficial effects, too.

  3. krista smith says:

My brother and I tried it an we loved it!

  4. For the past 16 years I have been a snowbird down in the warmer state of ARIZONA WHERE you will have good watermelon and cantelope, as well as other fruits and vegetables during the winter season.

  5. It took me 1/2 the moring to locate these fruit & Veg. recipes, couldn’t find the above Onion and Watermelon on Dr. Oz site. He gives out a lot of good suggestive ,ideas, recipes and herbal items that may be useful, but half the time I can’t find the info. ater the show on his Website. His show needs to have a better refererence list even thought he not backin or promoting the items on his show.
