Dr Oz’s At Home Stress Test: 5 Warning Signs of Stress

By on October 11, 2010

Doctor Oz did a segment called Dr Oz’s Ultimate Stress Checklist, and they spoke about a great At Home Stress Test that includes 5 warning signs of stress. Dr Oz At Home Stress Test

1. Check if Nails Grow 2 mm

You should measure how much your nails grow in a month, and if it is less than 2 mm, it could be a sign of stress. Dr Oz suggested that you could paint your nails at the beginning of the month and then at the end of the month you could measure the distance from the nail polish line to the base of your nail.  I’m not sure that I have ever seen a nail polish that reliably can last a month though!

2.  Examine Sleeping Patterns

How long does it take you to fall asleep at night?  And how many times do you wake up in the middle of the night?  If you wake-up more than once a week and cannot fall asleep or if it takes you more than 30 minutes to fall asleep at night, then you might be too stressed out.

3.  Jaw Pain from Jaw Clenching / Grinding Your Teeth

Dr Oz and I both have this problem apparently!  If your jawline and teeth hurt from jaw clenching or grinding your teeth at night, then you may be too stressed.  When you grind your teeth, you tend to flatten them out, so your dentist can often tell if you are doing it.

4.  Check Your Posture

Dr Oz said that when you stand up, you should pretend like there is a pane of glass behind your back and your shoulders must touch the glass.  You do not want to slouch or curve in your shoulders, because you are not engaging your core muscles and you are storing tension in your muscles.

5.  Biofeedback Stress Check Card

Dr Oz showed a very interesting device, which looked about the size of a credit card and it can test if you are stressed or not by looking at your skin temperature.  You can buy these Biofeedback Stress Check Cards online apparently.  When you are very stressed, no blood goes to your finger tips and so your hands will be colder and clammy feeling.
