Dr Oz’s Ultimate Anti-Aging Guide

By admin on June 28, 2010

Doctor Oz listed his Ultimate Anti-Aging Guide, which includes a fascinating supplement called Resveratrol (even though I always seem to want to pronounce it Reversatrol!).  But before I get ahead of myself with my excitement over the potential of Resveratrol, I will first tell you about Dr Oz’s experiments to tell how you are aging.  Aging begins deep in our bodies, within our cells.  In the nucleus of all of our cells there is DNA.  As the DNA gets replicated, the new genes get smaller and smaller until eventually the new stem cells are not regenerated.  So what you want to do is figure out how to telomeres (the ends of your genes) as long as possible.  Ultimate Anti-Aging Guide

Dr Oz first brought out a man who is in his late 80’s but still rides his bike and does triathlons… very impressive and inspirational!  He said that he hopes to still be bike riding well into his 100’s!  His tips for living a long and healthy life were to love life, love to learn, love excitement, eat 1 TB of tomato sauce a day, bike, swim, and lift weights a couple times  a week.  Also, surround yourself with loved ones and e-mail your friends… as Dr Oz said, if you don’t give your heart a reason to keep beating, it won’t.

Test How Old Your Body is With Push-Ups

Dr Oz said that you should try to do as many push-ups (from your knees) as you can, and then lookup the number of pushups on the chart below:

30 years old — 13 pushups

40 years old — 11 pushups

50 years old — 7 pushups

60 years old — 5 pushups

Skin Pinch Test: Test How Old Your Skin Is:

Mike Roizen and Dr Oz said that if you pinch your skin for a minute, and then count the number of seconds it takes your skin to go back to normal, the following chart will tell you how old your skin is:

3 seconds — 40 years old

6 seconds — 45 years old

8 seconds — 50 years old

10 seconds — 55 years old

I was shocked to hear that Michael Roizen is 64 years old, he looks MUCH younger!  He said the following is what has kept him young:

1.  His work & life is his passion

2.  He has a great partner in life

3.  Exercise, floss, sleeping right, fruits & veggies.  Dr. Roizen said that the more colorful and the brighter the produce is, the more they retard free radicals from aging you.

Resveratrol: Anti-Aging Supplement

Dr. Oz said that at the University of Wisconsin, they did a study on monkeys and found that a group of monkeys that is fed 30% less calories over its life did not develop as much cancer, heart disease or diabetes.  In fact, this type of study was done to 23 different species of animals.  Dr Oz said you don’t have to eat 30% less, even 15% less could get you to that point.  So basically, this means eating 300 calories less each day.  Dr Oz said that Resveratrol, a substance found in red wine, has the potential to be a life prolonging nutrient.  Dr Oz made sure to state that he does not officially endorse any Resveratrol products, but he did mention that he has been taking 500 mg of Resveratrol a day and the supplement costs around $25 a month as an over-the-counter supplement.  Resveratrol has to be made in an oxygen free environment and it is in the last stage of testing in the FDA.  The reason you cannot just drink red wine instead is because you would need to drink far too much red wine each day to get 500 mg of Resveratrol.
