Imagine what it would be like if you were America’s biggest family, the Duggars! They recently traveled all the way to New York City and as a family of 21 they quickly became a tourist attraction!
Dr Oz: Michelle Duggar Weight Watchers Success
Dr. Oz wondered how Michelle Duggar managed to lose the weight after so many pregnancies, which he estimated to be over 400 pounds. She said that it did not really become a problem until after about the 10th one when she realized she had about 30-40 pounds to lose because it was starting to cause back pain. She told Dr. Oz the key to her success was making healthy choices and having good portion control, but the big difference came when she decided to try the Weight Watchers Program.
Dr Oz: Duggars’ Secret To Marriage Success
Jim Bob Duggar told Dr. Oz the secret to having a successful marriage, especially with so many children, is to always make time for each other as a couple so you can maintain good communication as well as a strong connection. He also said that he and Michelle resolved early on in their marriage to never call each other names or talk down to each other, and they also make a point of settling their disagreements before the sun goes down. Jim Bob and Michelle both also say that humility and forgiveness are essential to having a strong marriage.

Dr Oz: Grocery Shopping With the Duggars
Dr. Oz wanted to give his audience an idea of what it is like to feed a family the size of the Duggars on a daily basis! The numbers were astounding, especially since they manage to do it all on a budget. Jim Bob Duggar told Dr. Oz they spend an average of $3,000 every month on food alone! He also said they do not have a house payment and they always buy used cars, but the biggest way they save is by purchasing a lot of their food in bulk.
- Eggs – Typical families purchase 1 dozen, Duggars purchase 15 dozen
- Fruit – Typical families purchase 1 pound, Duggars purchase 21 pounds
- Bread – Typical families buy 1 loaf a week, Duggars buy 50 pounds of flour to make their own bread
Dr Oz: Duggar Family Homemade Laundry Detergent
Michelle Duggar told Dr. Oz she is extremely grateful to her mother-in-law who lives with the family and does all of their laundry. Would you believe the average is 11 loads every day? While most of us purchase laundry detergent at the store and spend an average of $300 on 20 gallons, the Duggars make their own laundry detergent at a cost of just $3 for the same 20 gallons! They shared their “recipe” with Dr. Oz and his audience:
- 4 cups hot water
- 1 bar gentle soap
- 1 cup washing soda
- ½ cup Borax
Stir everything together in a large pot to make about 10 gallons of laundry detergent!
Dr Oz: Duggars’ Homemade Wet Wipes
- 1 ½ cups hot water
- 1 tablespoon baby oil
- 1 tablespoon baby shampoo
- 1 roll paper towel
- 1 large container with closeable lid
Mix all ingredients except for the paper towels and combine well. Cut the roll of paper towels in half and place in a large bowl. Pour the liquid over the roll of paper towels and allow to absorb completely. Once it is wet enough you will be able to remove the cardboard tube and place wet wipes in a sealed container for future use.
Dr Oz: Duggars’ Homemade Pickles
- 2 cups water
- 4 cups vinegar
- 4 cucumbers, sliced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Dill flavoring (optional)
Add all ingredients to a large jar. Cover and allow to sit for three days.
Dr Oz: Duggars’ Homemade Popcorn
- 6 cups popcorn
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 tablespoon nutritional yeast
Dr Oz: Duggars’ Home Remedy For a Cold
Michelle Duggar shared her favorite health tip with Dr. Oz, which is to use peppermint essential oils in a diffuser to help cure her family when someone catches a cold.
Each of the family members shared their favorite thing about being part of such a big family. Some of them included laughter, good food, never a dull moment, chaotic, adventurous, exciting, fun and love.
